In Tabriz rugs, a wide variety of designs are woven in both curvilinear and rectilinear formats: The medallion, over-all floral, picture and mahi (Herati). One of the new designs (Mahi Tabriz) is composed of small Herati motifs repeated throughout the field of the rug. Many new patterns were as well created. Most common design is the medallion, which were then divided into four and placed in the four corners of the field. In Tabriz rugs a wide variety of color combinations are used. The back-ground colors range from deep, rich tones of blue and red to pastel shades of taupe, ivory and black. Tabriz rugs are among the most popular Persian rugs. Fine quality Tabriz rugs are tightly woven and very durable. Prices vary according to quality and they are mostly available in large sizes. Also, a large number of round and square rugs in sizes up to 13 feet are weaved.
